Position Title: CHIEF NURSING OFFICER
Location: Saint Peter, MN
Employement Type: Exempt
Base Pay: $144310.00 - $176508.00 / Year
Description: The Chief Nursing Officer provides clinical and
administrative leadership to the clinical care areas of the
hospital (Nursing, Pharmacy, Rehabilitation Services, Pharmacy).
The Chief Nursing Officer ensures patient expectations are
exceeded, assures the organization can implement its
mission-vision-values, oversees and integrates the care delivery
system and merges the art and science of nursing to address patient
care needs.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Customers Needs and Expectations
- Leads the development, implementation and continuous
improvement of care delivery models and services that meet or
exceed customer expectations.
- Ensures patient rights by maintaining and enforcing patient
confidentiality and patient rights issues among staff members.
- Works to improve results of inpatient and outpatient
satisfaction surveys through the development and implementation of
focused action plans.
- Assists with responding to patient and family concerns and
communicates these concerns to appropriate staff. Maintains
documentation of resolution of concern in collaboration with the
Chief Experience Officer.
- Human Resource Management
- Leads a multidisciplinary work force that provides clinically
competent, efficient and compassionate care and service.
- Integrates organizational processes around recruitment and
retention of staff as well as alignment of staff for optimal care
delivery.
- Assesses the required skill sets, development plans, leadership
and coaching proficiency for direct report managers.
- Leads and coordinates efforts to ensure that staff development
and education occur in order to assure quality patient care
delivery.
- Is responsible for the orientation of direct reports and
oversight of orientation plans for all departments of
responsibility.
- Demonstrates sensitivity to staff needs as they relate to the
job by providing support and referring to appropriate resources
when necessary.
- Assesses employee competency related to expectations of duties,
implements performance improvement plans and conducts coaching and
corrective counseling as needed.
- Leads and coordinates personnel-related duties (ie.
interviewing, coaching, corrective counseling, payroll, staffing
and scheduling, and employee engagements).
- Maintains responsibility for departmental Position Control
documentation and demonstrates understanding of data to plan
predict staffing needs, including the use of supplemental
staff.
- Anticipates turnover in staff to ensure replacements without
disruption of patient care.
- Demonstrates the understanding of staffing models and
productivity to ensure fiduciary responsibility and facilitate safe
staffing.
- Serves as liaison between employees, physicians and
leadership.
- Managing the Care Delivery Structure
- Leads the development and use of care management systems that
promote evidence-based, clinically effective and efficient care to
the communities we serve
- Develops care management systems that guide patients through
the most appropriate levels of care and assists with managing
effective third-party relationships.
- Leads the design and implementation of a continuum-based care
delivery model that provides easy patient access to all necessary
levels of care.
- Leads and coordinates the development of policies and
procedures according to best practices, current regulatory
recommendations and standards.
- Effectively communicates changes, desires, concerns across the
organization.
- Impact of Technology on Care
- Establishes standards of care involving the use of new
technology in the hospital and the related payer guidelines.
- Assesses new equipment capabilities and assures competency of
staff.
- Financial Outcomes
- Leads the fiscal oversight of allocated resources in order to
optimize return on investments in all clinical and service
initiatives.
- Leads the development of departmental budgets based on revenue,
expense and trend reports.
- Participate in the identification and development of new
programs to enhance revenue.
- Identify sources of cost savings while providing the highest
quality of care.
- Monitor monthly budget and develop action plans necessary to
improve the financial outlook of the departments of
responsbility.
- Shares financial information with direct reports and directs
the work to maintain operations within budget.
- Reviews and addresses variance in budget across departments of
responsibility.
- Data Management
- Develops systems to continuously monitor and measure the
quality, safety and appropriateness of care and services.
- Maintains proficient clinical, operational and financial
databases upon which comparative outcomes can be derived, reported
and used for improvement.
- Strategic Visioning and Planning
- Actively participates in the development of the organizational
vision and strategic planning processes that lead to the
implementation of clinically cost-effective and efficient systems
of care within the continuum of the hospital services.

the multiple changes in health care.

- Develops processes and models to ensure the needs of the
patients are the primary focus.

- Promotes the development of initiatives for marketing care and
services provided by the hospital to patients, providers, staff and
other customers.

- Utilizes tools, expertise and applications for quality
improvement as a business strategy, and enhances leadership

regulatory guidelines. Education to include eight hours on hire and
annually.
Requirements:
- Degree from an accredited school of nursing required. Masters
Degree preferred.
- MN Registered Nurse license required.
- American Heart BLS certification required.
- Minimum of four years of supervisory level experience in an
acute care setting required (Manager, Director, Executive).
Critical Access experience preferred.
- Physical Demands/Requirements
- Continual hearing in person and on phone, and vision for close
up work.
- Frequent sitting, ability to be mobile, grasping, keyboarding,
color vision needed, and repetitive hand movements.
- Occasional stationary standing, walking, stooping, twisting,
turning/pivoting, pushing/pulling, and lifting/carrying.
- This position does not require repetitive lifting/carrying or
pushing/pulling in excess of 30 pounds.
