POSITION SUMMARY The Human Resource Director (HRD) reports directly to the President and serves as a dynamic, knowledgeable, and skilled professional overseeing the HR function for the organization. This person acts as a confidential, strategic partner with the President and Executive Team, providing support on a variety of relevant issues and projects. The HRD consults on and manages all human resources matters. The HRD supervises a Human Resources Generalist (HRG) to ensure that basic human resources tasks are completed efficiently and accurately. These tasks include, but are not limited to, talent acquisition, employee development and retention, legal compliance, compensation and benefits, employee relations, employment practices and procedures, employee communications, and employee support through effective personnel management. The HRD must exhibit mission-driven independence, emotional intelligence, and critical thinking skills. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Organizational Development

  • Provide operational and strategic leadership in partnership with the Executive Team and Board of Directors to ensure organizational culture values and respect for everyone.
  • Develop and implement annual and long-range strategic plans for Human Resources that support the organizations' core priorities and strategic plan. Lead internal communications strategies to build on mission, vision, and values that positively impact organizational culture and ensure consistent messaging. Recruitment
    • Lead Affirmative Action activities; oversee the completion of compliance reports related to recruiting.
    • Continually stay current on all external rules, laws, licenses, and insurance coverage that govern programs and personnel practices, ensuring the organization operates in compliance.
    • Back up the HR Generalist with managing the recruiting platform. The HR Generalist will take care of day-to-day recruiting tasks and collaborate with the HR Director when needed. Performance Evaluation and Compensation
      • Direct the annual performance evaluation process in partnership with the Executive Team and Board of Directors.
      • Lead analysis and benchmarking of all positions to ensure competitive pay practices and internal equity.
      • Provide guidance to supervisors on implementing the employee performance process including written performance appraisals and salary recommendations. Employee Wellness and Benefits
        • Direct the administration of employee benefits programs, including--but not limited to, health and wellness, retirement, Worker's Compensation, and leave programs.
        • Spearhead initiatives to promote and maintain a positive, productive, and healthy employer-employee work environment.
        • Negotiate with vendors and third-party benefit administrators to maximize health and wellness programs and minimize costs. Employee Relations
          • Advocate for staff and the organization at all levels, bridging relationships between management and staff.
          • Manage timely and appropriate resolution of employee issues, including conducting and documenting investigations. Be actively involved in all termination decisions. Implement a range of human resources training activities to support the organization's mission including diversity, equity, and inclusion, non-harassment, supervisory skills, and others.             • Build racial equity diversity and inclusion principles into policies, processes, and programs across the organization.
            • Develop, implement, and maintain organizational policies with an eye on consistency and current best practices, and availability for all employees.
            • Ensure organization is operating in compliance with all applicable employment laws: EEO Compliance Officer, Data Privacy Officer, and HIPAA Compliance Officer. REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES
              • Ability to champion culture change and engage employees.
              • Knowledge of applicable state and federal laws, and rules and regulations related to public sector employment and labor laws (Pay Equity, Veterans Preference, ADA, FMLA, COBRA, Data Practices, etc.).
              • Ability to accurately comprehend, interpret, analyze, and explain complex information.
              • Ability to interact, develop, and maintain positive and professional working relationships at all organizational levels, internally and externally.
              • Ability to perform duties with tact, diplomacy, discretion, and respect, and maintain confidentiality of sensitive information, issues, and projects.
              • Ability to relate and work effectively with people from diverse cultural, socioeconomic, racial, and ethnic backgrounds. Physical Requirements:
                • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
                • Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
                • Must be able to access and navigate organization's buildings and facilities. QUALIFICATIONS Education/Experience:
                  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or related field - preferred but not required.
                  • Five (5) to seven (7) years of Human Resource Generalist experience - required.
                  • Three (3) years of experience as a supervisor or team lead - required.
                  • SHRM-CP or PHR credential - preferred but not required.
                  • Nonprofit experience - strongly preferred.
                  • Experience with payroll and benefit systems, Paycom preferred, but not required. Pay: $75,000-$90,000, depending on qualifications and experience.
